Howick Intermediate School
Howick Intermediate is a well-established intermediate school in Howick, serving Years 7 and 8 with a diverse and inclusive community and a strong emphasis on belonging and positive school culture.
I started working with Howick Intermediate in 2016, when Yolande Franke was the principal with a clear vision to rejuvenate the school, sharpen its identity, and make it a school families actively chose rather than simply defaulted to. That shift in direction was the context for the website, and it shaped everything about how we approached it. Sarah Pickering has continued that same ambition, and the school has gone from strength to strength.
Over nearly a decade we have evolved the technical platform to make it easier for staff to manage, and I come in periodically for photoshoots, always with the aim of building a photo library the school can draw on across multiple channels, newsletters, print, social, not just the website. The school is in full ownership of their site, handling their own daily updates and keeping a highlights section on the homepage that showcases what students are actually doing and learning. My role is to support that from a distance, coming in when something needs refreshing or a new direction is required.
