Maraetai Beach School
Maraetai Beach School is a full primary and a real gem, tucked into the coastal community of Maraetai on the Pōhutukawa Coast. It's a school where everybody knows each other, older students mix naturally with younger ones, and the relaxed warmth of beach village life runs through everything.
I've been working with Maraetai Beach School since 2016. The initial website was updated several times, before we started with a new system in 2021. The current website was commissioned by the outgoing principal, once Lou Reddy came on board in 2024, we embarked on something more substantial, refining the content, sharpening the direction, and building out a dedicated section for international student marketing.
For a primary school, international enrolment means the whole family relocates, not just the student, so the international section needed to work for agents, for prospective families researching from abroad, and as a practical guide for families already at the school. We created dedicated photography for that market and produced brochures to support it.
In 2025, I designed the school yearbook, a forty-page full-colour record of the year's achievements, projects and moments. For a designer it was a genuine creative outlet, reflecting the vibrant, warm character of a school that gives you a lot to work with.
This is the kind of project that grows because the commitment is there on both sides, to keep getting it right.
